SIMON CHAINSAW & THE HIPPY KILLERS (S.C.H.K.) (from PORTO ALEGRE, BRAZIL) played their first show in MAY 2004 …. within months they were the cover story of the local music paper PORTO BLUES, played live on TVE program RADAR and TV-COM's program PAPO CLIP, had full page story in national rock magazine COMMANDO ROCK and were featured in Brazils Top Surfing magazine HARDCORE. The band was less than 1 year old when they released the debut disc TOLD ME A LIE, recorded in Porto Alegre and Sao Paulo and mixed in Berlin Germany. The disc featured participation of members of Forgotten Boys, Cachorro Grande, Frila and Los Vatos. A clip filmed for the disc was aired on MTV-BRAZIL. Their label TRONADOR RECORDS (Sáo Paulo, Brazil), concentrates on international distribution, just as much as national distribution, and before long the disc had received many great reviews in magazines, fanzines and websites and RADIO airplay in GERMANY, AUSTRALIA, USA, PORTUGAL and FRANCE. They opened for MARKY RAMONE in a Brazilian tour, were included on sountracks for no less than 6 surf and skate DVDs (!!!) and have just finished recording the follow up disc BE YOUR DRUG And all this in just over 2 years and without even playing 1 time in Brazil’s media capital Sao Paulo!... and now they are off to play in Germany, invited to showcase at Germanys biggest music fair POPKOMM in September.
So why is S.C.H.K. so interesting?? ................Because S.C.H.K. is everything that’s great about rock music... and I mean ROCK music. They are the sum total of everything they’ve consumed since childhood, AC/DC, SEX PISTOLS, RAMONES, NIRVANA, GUNS & ROSES, ROSE TATTOO, MC5, ALICE COOPER, BACKYARD BABIES, SOCIAL DISTORTION, OZZY, FOO FIGHTERS and on and on ….. a great eclectic mix that’s all been bubbling away in there and now they spew it all back in their own unique style… loud, energetic, fresh, honest… with frenetic wild guitars and even wilder solos, great melodies from Simon’s own raspy throat, a rhythm that drives like a locomotive and great PUNK inspired ROCK shows.. ….. one thing is for sure about S.C.H.K. is that they are ROCK…. sometime more PUNK than ROCK, sometimes more ROCK than PUNK … but always ROCK… PURE, FRESH, ABRAISIVE and HONEST … coz they play from their hearts… not their hip pockets!
